That’s right! Last night The Onion, Austin Film Festival and Cap City Comedy Club held the Second Funniest Filmmaker in Austin Contest and we blew them away! Sure, some other jerk won the Funniest Filmmaker in Austin Contest (being held simultaneously), but Bob Ray (armed with his cartoon “Platypus Rex in: Hymenoplasty”) totally took the gold in the silver medal competition of the Second Funniest Filmmaker in Austin Contest! We rule!
Due to technical jargon and insider-speak, the official word is that Bob Ray is the “runner-up” in the Funniest Filmmaker in Austin Contest, but for anyone with half a brain, it’s clear that Bob totally won the shit out of the Second Funniest Filmmaker in Austin Contest. Totally, totally won that shit!
Not impressed yet? Well wait, there’s more: Austin has 1.5 million people and we’re assuming all of them are filmmakers. So by coming in as “runner up” in the Funniest Filmmaker in Austin Contest, Bob Ray officially a waaay funnier filmmaker than 1,499,999 other filmmakers calling Austin home. All August long the fine folks over at the Slamdance Film Festival will be screening Night of the Kung Fu Zombie Bastards from Hell! (Redux) on their site.
The screening is part of an online competition called Anarchy. Please go watch Night of the Kung Fu Zombie Bastards from Hell! (Redux) and vote for it in the competition! The winner gets their flick screened at the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City in January of ‘09.

the dang Chupacabra episode is coming along nicely. A week was lost to the mayhen known as RollerCon (a roller derby convention in Vegas). But I’m back on track!
Hopefully, we’ll have the Chupacabra ‘toon alive and kicking this week!
I need $.02 worth. The upcoming series we’ve been calling Limp Dictionary was originally titled Tricky Dictionary, and I’m not sure which way to lean on this slippery slope.
The premise behind the series is that we get the definition and history behind some of the words and phrases we toss around so casually but never think much about. Of course, history can be a tricky bitch and historical accuracy is a moving target, so yeah, the info is all fucked up.
It’s mis-informative and hilarious, just like the two working-titles. So which Dick do you like best?

So I think I have about 2-3 days worth of work on the Spanish Lessons with Chupacabra Volume 7: Conversational Spanish. The problem is finding the 2-3 days that I can spare for working on the ‘toon.
Basically, I’ve been swamped in putting together the Hell on Wheels DVD whatnot and gearing up for RollerCon. Hopefully after this coming weekend, I can scrape up a lil’ time to finish the ucker-fay off, eh?
Adding to the workload on the Chupacabra ‘toon is the fact that I’m pretty sure it’ll need some mouth movements to sync up with the dialogue. It is supposed to be Spanish lessons, after all. I’m no animator (as you can plainly see from the half-assed cartoons that I make) and I’ve never attempted that kinda thing, so we’ll see how it goes, I suppose.
As for the Platypus Rex episode Inflected, I think I have the solution. The problem that the solution stirs up is needing to coordinate with Michael Dalmon and record a few lines of dialogue. Once we can manage that bitty task, I’ll crank out the nut-buster. Hell, the thing’s about 90% animated as it is.
After that? Well, it might be another P.Rex‘toon about cloning and prostitution. Or maybe I’ll finally attempt to tackle the first episode of Limp Dictionary. We’ll see what happens to strike my fancy. And my fancy loves the striking.
